Kiryandongo District Sanitation Baseline Data Disseminated
Kiryandongo district local government has disseminated the sanitation baseline data collected during the financial year 2019/2020. The dissemination took place on Wednesday March 4, 2020 at the Community Technology Access resource centre in Kiryandongo towncouncil.
The baseline survey which has revealed an improvement in latrine and hand washing facilities from 72% and 30.1% to 74% and 31.6% respectively in financial year 2019/2020 was carried out with support from UNICEF.The survey focused on schools, household sanitation and hygiene as well as water sources to determine their functionality.
While presenting the findings of the survey, Leonard Okol the District Health Inspector Kiryandongo stressed the need for intense community mobilization so as to ensure proper sanitation and hygiene. He added that proper sanitation and hygiene will help to avoid preventable diseases which strain the country billions of shillings.
